Canaan Orphanage Staff

Elsie Kornelsen, LPN

Currently running the Medical Clinic at Canaan.

"Canadian by nationality, I was born in Belize and grew up in Costa Rica. I got my nursing (LPN) in the USA. I had been living in northern BC for 5 years, when I met Sister Gladys and Pastor Henri at my church. (My pastor Wayne Shenk is also their pastor and has been coming to Canaan for many years). End of 2007, they felt called to open the clinic at Canaan again and asked me to come run it. I came in Jan. 2008.

"It has been an interesting experience, stepping way past my education level, and watching what God can do through anybody putting themselves out there. As we have grown daily (from 2-10 patients when I came to 30-70 now) it is interesting how God keeps us supplied with all we need. These couple years have been a constant walk of faith. It is also very rewarding to know people are getting better from illnesses like malaria, typhoid, pneumonia, abscesses and many others through our work at the clinic.

"The most difficult part for me is to see the poverty and hunger of the people. Working with the Medika Mamba, we are able to help so many severely malnourished children. I LOVE to see the pounds come on! I am excited now to start working to be able to also help more people, like malnourished and anemic pregnant and lactating moms, HIV and TB patients, and very poor families. This is a new program that I am starting to work towards and it could open many more doors for the Haitian poor people.

"We appreciate the amazing support we get from so many of you. By ourselves we cannot do this. Thank you for partnering with us as we serve the Haitian people."
